I was washing the dishes tonight after supper, and Ethan asked if he could help. I pulled a chair over to the sink and showed him how to help me scrub the pans. He must have enjoyed himself, because after we were done he told Livi, "I'm pretty lucky tonight, Livi, cuz I got to do the dishes!"
I thought I better get this one on record, because I'm sure his attitude about washing dishes will change someday!

Not Quite!
After a little encouragement from my aunt, I recently started working on Bible verse memorization with the kids. The first one we are learning is Galations 5:22-23. We have been talking about matters of the heart, so I thought it would be a good one to start with. Plus, I already know it in the form of a song, which makes it much easier to memorize. Last night as Ethan was getting ready for bed, I overheard him talking to himself, saying, "The fruit of the Spirit is..."
I couldn't believe he was learning it so quickly! I quietly waved Josh over to listen.
"The fruit of the Spirit is.....poop, pee, punch."
SIGH! Not yet!

Dreams!
Awhile back, Ethan overheard Josh telling me about his dream from the night before. Ever since then, Ethan has been sharing his "dreams" with us. I put it in quotes, because I'm pretty sure that most of them were not actual dreams but just stories he made up on the spot. Although, lately I'm beginning to wonder if he has figured out what a dream actually is. Almost every morning he has a dream to tell me. It's so fun to listen to him! Yesterday I overheard this conversation he had with Dylan....
Ethan: While coloring an ice cream cone picture, "Have you ever tried this kind of ice cream before?"
Dylan: "No."
Ethan: "I tried it in one of my dreams. It's awesome!"

Swim Lessons
Ethan started swim lessons this week, and I think the power has been going to his head! He was practicing his new moves in the bathtub the other night, and here are a few things that he said:
"Mom, you don't need to watch us anymore. I can keep an eye on Olivia, because I know swim lessons now." (By the way, I didn't fall for it. Mom still supervised.)
"Livi, if you want to get a toy, all you have to do is swim like this. (Scooting on his bottom across the tub while moving arms in swimming motion.) I can show you, because I know swim lessons."
Here are a few pictures from his first day of swim lessons! I wasn't allowed in, so I had to snap pictures from the other side of the fence. Yes, I was the crazy mom with my nose up against the fence the whole time!
Walking to the pool with his class for the first time! I can't believe my little boy is old enough to do this!
Again, sorry the pictures aren't that great. Remember, I was on the other side of the fence! Ethan is the little one who's NOT hanging on to the lifeguard for dear life.
Trying out the backfloat, aka the hippo!
Look at all those cute shivering kids getting ready to jump in!
I'm so proud of my little swimmer!

Conversation with Dr. Peterson
Ethan went to the doctor last week for his school physical. Dr. Peterson was asking him a few questions, and Ethan's responses were great!
Dr. Peterson: "Do you like to climb trees?"
Ethan: "Well, I do, but I don't have very many climbing trees in my front yard. I have some trees in my backyard, but only one single tree that I climb. Actually, it's not a good climbing tree, but I still climb it all the time."
Dr. Peterson: "Is it an old tree?"
Ethan: "Yeah. It's really old."
Dr. Peterson: "Like 4?"
Ethan: "No, older than that."
Dr. Peterson: "Like 10?"
Ethan: "No, old, like 51."
Dr. Peterson: "Oh, I see. How old is your mom?"
Ethan: "Well, she's actually 27, but she looks like she's 23."
Dr. Peterson laughed and asked me if I had trained him. I can honestly say that he came up with that answer all on his own! Let's hope I continue to age gracefully!

Mama's Paparazzi
Ethan followed me around the other day with his camera!
Here I am putting away laundry. You can tell how tall the photographer is!
Fixing my hair
I decided to play along. It's not everyday that I get treated like a model!

Whatever Those Things Are!
When it was time to leave my parents' house last week, Ethan quickly hugged and kissed my mom's leg, and said, "I kissed whatever those things are."
We all laughed, and he said, "Well, they're not pants, and they're not shorts. So what are they?"
And that's the day Ethan learned about capris!
